Douglas B. Armbruster
Who Is Doug
As a veteran in municipal politics, I bring a wealth of experience and knowledge with me to the boardroom from both my time with the Town of Raymore and with Horizon School Division #205.
My real strength is found at home, where I have been married for 22 years to an educator with Regina Public Schools and I am the proud parent of a child in Grade 4 attending school in Regina Public. Building a stronger and more robust education system for my family and the rest of the families that have entrusted me with their support is my enduring why.
Education is in my blood. I have studied and earned a Bachelor and a Masters degree. I served as an SCC Member and Chairperson for over 7 years, helping to shape student experience and success from a local level. I love to teach, to research, and to continue in my life-long learning. I have listened and learned from the teachers in my life - my late grandmother, my wife and my sister-in-law to name just a few - and many of my family and friends have shared the joy of trusteeship with me.
Community building and service fill my cup! I am a volleyball coach, have been a director of the local Fire Cooperative, am a past associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, chaired the Raymore Arena/Pool Board, and served as the Emergency Management Officer for both the Town of Raymore and the Rural Municipality of Mount Hope #279. I am always willing to serve my community in whatever way I can.
Why He Is Running
Your Child's Success Is My Number One Priority
Every student deserves to have a strong foundation in literacy, numeracy, science, technology, physical education, arts education, and physical and applied arts. The focus has to be on learning. We need to tune in to education, and tune out the rest of the noise.
Your Child Matters to Me
Every student deserves to have an equitable and robust education and school experience. I will work every day to ensure that your family matters in Regina Public Schools.
Your Child's Education Deserves to be Properly Funded
Class size and complexity is a real issue that needs to be addressed first and foremost by advocating for funding that can be used for exactly what it is intended for. I will ensure that we spent every cent of your tax dollars wisely, and that our projects and programs focus on educational outcomes and student success. Boards of Education need to safeguard the funds entrusted to them and budget accordingly. Your student deserves to see the funding received on their behalf impacting their classroom, their teacher, and their school.
Your Voice Will Be Heard
Your voice will come with me to the board table, whether I agree with you or not. Your opinion matters to me. I will listen, I will hear you, and I will speak on your behalf.
I have served on numerous boards and committees throughout my time as a Town Councilor and as a School Board Trustee, and have developed skills in Robert's Rules of Order, Policy Governance, Educational Governance, and have the ability to use those skills effectively in the boardroom. Skills like this lead to everyone having a voice at the table, so your voice comes to the table every single meeting whether I agree with you or not. The Regina Public School Division needs strong visionary leadership as they move forward in difficult and uncertain educational times.
I Will Work For You As the Voice of Reason
You need to have a trustee at the table who is able to see both sides, and work to find the best way without polarizing the issues. I want to be a voice of reason at the Board table. There is always a way to get the work done in a way that is best for our students, and we need to listen to each other, even those who may disagree with us. Debate and discussion is important! In the end, the will of the Board always stands, and I will always support the will of the Board, even if I may personally disagree with it. A strong board is a unified board.
I Have The Experience Needed To Make Change Now
After over 5 years as a Councilor for the Town of Raymore, 3.5 years as a Trustee with the Horizon School Division #205, and countless professional development sessions and training, I have the skill and abilities necessary to step into the boardroom and be effective immediately. Our education system is in crisis, time is of the essence, and I am ready to serve.
